Objective

To acquire and improve practical skills in working with children who have communication and language/speech disorders of various aetiologies (hearing, maxillofacial deformities, developmental, functional, etc.).

Prerequisites

Communication and language development, assessment of early development. Speech sound disorders of various origins, course paper. Language disorders in children. Sign language.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

• Will list communication and language/speech disorders of various aetiologies in children;
• Will classify types of communication and language/speech disorders in children;
• Will describe the types of learning disorders;
• Will list possible types of therapy in cases of communication and speech/language disorders.

Skills

• Will assess the child’s needs;
• Will assess the state of communication and speech/language of children;
• Will perform an analysis of the disorder;
• Will plan the necessary therapy;
• Will demonstrate the implementation of the planned therapy.

Competence

• Will systematise the obtained anamnesis and assessment data on communication and language/speech disorders of various aetiologies in children;
• Will interpret the obtained anamnesis and assessment data, plan and carry out the necessary therapy within the limits of one’s competence.
