Objective

Provide an insight into modern and future medical innovations in gastroenterology.

Prerequisites

Digestive function: normal and pathology. Basic gastroenterology in the Part A study course.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The student will acquire knowledge of current special (magnifying endoscopy, chromoendoscopy, echoendoscopy, capsule endoscopy, "optical" biopsies) and the latest diagnostic (colono- and enterography, invasive radiology) facilities and treatment methods (including biological therapy) in gastroenterology. Will know the best ways to investigate and treat in various clinical situations.

Skills

Using the examination data, students will be able to formulate indications, evaluate contraindications and limitations of current and future methods for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, and use standard techniques to select the most effective diagnostic and therapeutic route with maximum economic benefit in a given clinical situation.

Competence

Students plan their cognitive process independently to balance the existing knowledge obtained in the compulsory course with the new material in standard situations in gastroenterology; capable of focusing on the benefit/risk assessment, acting alone and within the group; able to use literature, e-environment and knowledge of colleagues and lecturers; take responsibility for presenting the work of the student group (team work).
