Objective

Form understanding and knowledge of the usage and importance of the Latin language in learning medical terminology, evaluate the role of the Latin language in studying other medical subjects.

Prerequisites

Latin alphabet.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After having successfully completed the course, the student can:
• explain the basic rules of pronunciation and spelling;
• recognise and name prefixes and suffixes of Latin and Greek origin;
• explain the meaning of Greek elements in the medical terminology;
• speak on the basic rules in the formation and usage of anatomical and clinical terms.

Skills

After having successfully completed the course, the student can:
• pronounce and write medical terms correctly;
• form new words and identify them;
• form and explain anatomical and clinical terms;
• classify and compare medical terms;
• read Latin terms in prescriptions;
• interpret and understand the meaning of sayings and quotes in Latin.

Competence

After having successfully completed the course, the student will be able to use anatomical and clinical terminology in the study process and professional work.
