Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Latvian and English Alphabet.
Objective:
To acquire skills and knowledge on correct reading, writing, usage and explanation of anatomical and clinical terms, to integrate the knowledge of Latin in studying other subjects and scientific work using the obtained knowledge in professional settings.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Learning vocabulary forms of the noun and adjectives; acquiring medical combining forms; doing regular home assignments on the themes covered; checking performed exercises and doing similar tasks in the practical classes; doing independent tasks online in e-studies; work with dictionaries, additional materials and the internet to get the deeper comprehension of the medical terms.
Assessment Criteria:
Regular attendance of classes; active participation in the practical classes; properly done and timely submitted home assignments; final test (online) on anatomical terminology to check the skills of making agreement of the adjective with the noun, identify and explain terms and use correct word endings.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On successful completion of the study course the students will know: • basic rules in reading and writing medical terms; • rules for making, explaining and using anatomical and clinical terms; • how to interpret terminology acquired in anatomy, as well as terms neccessary in scientific and professional work.
Skills:On successful completion of this study course the students will be able to: • read and write the medical terms correctly; • identify, form, explain, classify and compare medical terms; • interpret the Latin proverbs, understand their meaning.
Competencies:On successful completion of the course the students will be able to use anatomical terms in academic, scientific and professional settings.
