Objective

At the end of the course the students will have knowledge of paediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery, will have practised management of trauma and infections in oral and maxillofacial region on children, will have obtained practical skills to perform the most common procedures in paediatric oral surgery.

Prerequisites

To start study course (or semester) all previous assessments according to Study plan (D1) should be successfully passed.
Knowledge of anatomy, diagnostic radiology, physiology, microbiology, genetics, general surgery, paediatrics, children conservative dentistry, oral pathology, orthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and communication skills are mandatory.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

The students will recognize the peculiarities of oral and maxillofacial pathology and will be able to describe treatment methods in children. Recall general knowledge about sedation in children.

Skills

The students will have obtained skills in identifying pathology in maxillofacial region, in identifying the necessity to refer a patient for treatment to different specialists, in performing the most common procedures in paediatric oral surgery (extractions, incisions, minor dentoalveolar surgery), in obtaining communication skills with parents and children.

Competence

The students will be able to demonstrate pain, anxiety elimination methods for practical work with children, will be able to demonstrate and apply the knowledge and skills of dentoalveolar surgery, prevention and management for possible complications, will be able to communicate and clinically investigate children in different ages and to make diagnosis in clinical setting.
The students will be competent in ethical praxis including the rights and limitations to perform different procedures by themselves or to refer patients properly. They will be competent in different diagnostic and treatment methods of pathologies and traumas in oral and maxillofacial region in children.
