Objective

The objective of the Paediatrics study course is to provide undergraduate students with knowledge in paediatrics related to speech therapy problems in children, as well as to develop the necessary skills and attitude of a speech therapist in working with children in a multidisciplinary team in medical treatment and rehabilitation institutions.

Prerequisites

Human anatomy, normal physiology, histology, genetics, embryology, otorhinolaryngology, neurology, medical psychology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

About the physiology and pathology of child development and growth related to child development, language, speech and behaviour disorders. After completing the study course in paediatrics, the student is able to distinguish the normal development and growth of a child from a pathological process. Orients oneself in the methods that help to determine the child’s individual compliance with physiological development.

Skills

To assess the child’s physical and psychosocial development, establish contact with the child and their parents, assess the information obtained during the conversation, check the child’s language and speech development and skills, self-care abilities, understand the cause of the disorder.

Competence

Competences and skills in questioning children and parents, evaluating data, analysing clinical symptoms.
