There are 5 steps to follow if you get sick.

STEP 1: Inform the Faculty of Medicine, Office for International Students

Contact the office for international students at the Faculty of Medicine via e-mail (foreignatrsu[pnkts]lv) and inform them that you are ill and will not be able to attend scheduled classes.

STEP 2: Inform Academic Staff

Ask your group mates to inform the lecturer that you are ill and will be absent and/or ask the secretary of the department to inform the professor or teacher of your absence.

STEP 3: See a Doctor

Make an appointment with a doctor (see: Health & Wellbeing) and ask them to write a sick note.

STEP 4: Submit a Sick Note to the Faculty of Medicine, Office for International Students

Submit the sick note to the Office for International Students at the Faculty of Medicine within 5 days after returning to the University (the doctor’s note can be sent via e-mail to foreignatrsu[pnkts]lv or dropped in the post box next to the office in K-221). If there were colloquia or exams during your absence that you did not take, you can take them afterwards according to an individually set date and time. If, however, you submit the note later than 5 days after you get well, you will not be able to take colloquia or exams on an individual basis.

STEP 5: Catch up With Classes

In order to catch up with your studies, you should first consult your group mates (copy what they have written down in the classes and ask about homework for next classes) and then professors if necessary. There is a certain amount of classes set in each department that you have to participate in – regardless if you have missed these classes due to illness or any other reasons.
