Preliminary Knowledge:
Acquired knowledge of anatomy, histology.
Objective:
To develop understanding and knowledge of the development and growth of the face, jaws and bite, etiology and classification of dentofacial abnormalities, diagnostic and treatment planning methods, basic principles of operation of orthodontic devices and equipment and indications of their application. To develop students' skills to recognize skeletal, dentoalveolar and occlusion abnormalities in milk, shifts and permanent bite, to help understand and apply theoretical knowledge in a clinic, providing the necessary oral care skills to patients with orthodontic equipment.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
According to the lecture topic, to independently carry out a literature review and analysis. To present and answer questions asked by lecturers, assessing clinical cases. Analysis of models. A course evaluation questionnaire must be completed.
Assessment Criteria:
The first test is a written test work, that analyses control models by identifying bite and tooth row problems, and answering a theoretical question on the topic of orthodontics. The second is a final test, where student writes and describes the control models, one theoretical question and one Engle class, followed by oral defence. Student skills and knowledge of the acquired lectures and classes material is evaluated. Final score is 'passed' if the student achieves more than 60% of the correct answers.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Knowledge of the patient's bite, recognise orthognathic bite: know how to name orthodontic problems in different phases of bite development; recognise the operation of mechanical, functional and non-removable equipment and components; explain and justify dental care during orthodontic treatment; use clinical cases discussed in lectures and classes, analyse and used in working with patient of different age.
Skills:Evaluate dentofacial and dental line abnormalities in milk, exchange and permanent bite. Recognise various fixed and removable orthodontic equipment. Evaluate the patient's bite and recognise the orthognathic bite. Develop individually appropriate care to patients of different ages with orthodontic appliances and recommend the most appropriate oral care products.
Competencies:Students are able to evaluate a patient's bite and bite anomalies, analyze and draw up the most appropriate treatment plan; constantly performs the necessary manipulations for patients with orthodontic appliances, is able to instruct of different ages patients on the care of teeth and appliances during orthodontic treatment, is able to independently learn the latest literature on dental care products for patients with orthodontic appliances in medical journals and on websites.
