We are proud that on 13 April the very first event organised by the RSU Asian Society took place. They were the brave pioneers to start a tradition that we hope students representing other countries will continue. Attended by most Tamil students studying at RSU as well as other international and local students, the event was received very well.
The field-trip to Tallin took place on Saturday, the 9th of April 2011. From a total of 368 international students at RSU, sixty went on the trip, so 15% of all the international students, which is not bad at all! Quite a few who did go on the trip had taken their study materials along with them on the bus and were diligently preparing for classes.
Among the 3000 people that agreed to be shadowed this year, there were also alumni of RSU. The competition for being a shadow for RSU alumnus was high, and the most severe competition developed for Prof. Romāns Lācis, Chairman of the Board of RSU Alumni Association, Head of Heart Surgery Centre at Pauls Stradiņš University Hospital (73 applications), followed by the unit manager of the same center – Mr Pēteris Stradiņš (68 applications) and a doctor of Intensive Care Unit at the Pauls Stradiņš University Hospital – Indulis Vanags (32 applications). The shadows of Heart Surgery Centre at Pauls Stradiņš University Hospital were among the first to learn about the already planned 9th heart transplantation of Latvia, which was done at night form February 16th to 17th under the guidance of Prof. Lācis.
Four students of Rīga Stradiņš University have signed a contract about receiving Honours scholarship for the Alumni Association of RSU and SIA “Veselibas centrs 4”, a medical centre.
In the maternity house, which is where RSU's department of obstetrics and gynecology is located, the first practical training on the newly gained study puppets or moulages, which were obtained with the support from Boriss and Ināra Teterevs’ Foundation, of year 4 students took place. In the future the moulage will be used to help students of medicine acquire practical knowledge in child labour.
