Support for Ukraine

24 February 2024 marks two years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In solidarity with the Ukrainian society and in honour of all those who have died and suffered because of the war, we invite you to join us in a moment of silence this Friday, 23 February, at 10.00.

From the first days of the war, we at Rīga Stradiņš University have considered it our honour and duty to do everything in our power to support Ukraine in its war against the aggressor, and to support the innocent people who are suffering as a result.

In these two years, RSU has recruited 10 new guest lecturers from Ukraine, and the RSU Language Centre volunteered to teach Latvian to Ukrainian refugees. We have provided financial support for tuition fees, as well as for participants in our Open University courses from Ukraine. In total, RSU's support amounts to almost 150,000 EUR - this is our way of showing our solidarity with our friends and peers in Ukraine.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of you for the selfless support  you have shown in these difficult times. Your contribution is invaluable and is a testament to the strength and unity of our university community. I call on each of you personally not only to remember and honour Ukraine, but also to continue to take action. Each one of us can contribute to promoting peace and supporting those who need it most.

One way to support Ukraine is to participate in the activities of the association Tavi draugi in Pārdaugava. See their website for more information.

Sincerely,
Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons
