Objective

To develop understanding and knowledge of the development and growth of the face, jaws and bite, etiology and classification of dentofacial abnormalities, diagnostic and treatment planning methods, basic principles of operation of orthodontic devices and equipment and indications of their application. To develop students' skills to recognize skeletal, dentoalveolar and occlusion abnormalities in milk, shifts and permanent bite, to help understand and apply theoretical knowledge in a clinic, providing the necessary oral care skills to patients with orthodontic equipment.

Prerequisites

Acquired knowledge of anatomy, histology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Knowledge of the patient's bite, recognise orthognathic bite: know how to name orthodontic problems in different phases of bite development; recognise the operation of mechanical, functional and non-removable equipment and components; explain and justify dental care during orthodontic treatment; use clinical cases discussed in lectures and classes, analyse and used in working with patient of different age.

Skills

Evaluate dentofacial and dental line abnormalities in milk, exchange and permanent bite.
Recognise various fixed and removable orthodontic equipment.
Evaluate the patient's bite and recognise the orthognathic bite.
Develop individually appropriate care to patients of different ages with orthodontic appliances and recommend the most appropriate oral care products.

Competence

Students are able to evaluate a patient's bite and bite anomalies, analyze and draw up the most appropriate treatment plan; constantly performs the necessary manipulations for patients with orthodontic appliances, is able to instruct of different ages patients on the care of teeth and appliances during orthodontic treatment, is able to independently learn the latest literature on dental care products for patients with orthodontic appliances in medical journals and on websites.
