The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Open University (OU) allows anyone to enrol in the study programmes and the study courses offered by RSU as a free listener.

How to become an OU listener?

The interested party evaluates the possibility of applying for the chosen study course by getting acquainted with the description of the study course and the set requirements in the following order: chooses the appropriate level of education, study programme and study course to be studied.

For international students: If a student has unfulfilled academic obligations in their regular studies, the student cannot study at the Open University (see the Rector's Decree On repeated studies of international students).

Medicine

Application criteria

  • You have necessary prior knowledge in the study courses you have chosen
  • You can take study courses that are in previous semesters and one semester ahead according to your current semester in regular studies from the 1st through 6th semester
  • You can take study courses at the Open University and regular study programme not exceeding 30 ECTS points in one semester

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the Medicine study programme is 241 EUR.

Dentistry

Course list

You can take study courses at the Open University and regular study programme not exceeding 30 ECTS points in one semester.

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the Medicine study programme is 279 EUR.

International Business and Start-up Entrepreneurship

You may select a maximum of 4 study courses.

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the International Business and Start-up Entrepreneurship study programme is 100 EUR.

Health Management

You may select a maximum of 4 study courses.

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the Health Management study programme is 90 EUR.

Russia and Eurasia Studies

You may select a maximum of 4 study courses.

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the Russia and Eurasia Studies study programme is 104 EUR.

Social Work with Children and Youth

You may select a maximum of 4 study courses.

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the Social Work with Children and Youth study programme is 75 EUR.

You may select a maximum of 4 study courses.

There is a limited number of places on the course.

The tuition fee for the study course is calculated by multiplying the amount of ECTS points with the rate of a single ECTS point. The rate of a single ECTS point in the Health Care and the Social Sciences study programmes is 346 EUR and 182 EUR, respectively.

Application process

For courses starting in September: submit applications by 18 August 2024.
For courses starting in October: the application will open on 2 September and the application must be submitted 10 working days before the beginning of the selected study course.
  • If the interested party has made sure that they meet the requirements of the chosen study course, they fill out the application form.
    • RSU students (including transfer students): fill out the online application form (see above);
    • Others: complete all the application items using the application checklist
  • After approval by the Open University, the Open University will provide consultations with regard to the acquisition of the study courses – conditions, tuition fees, credit points and venue;
  • You must give Open University an answer about the possibility to take study courses in Open University together with your regular study programme, according to the timetables;
  • After receipt of the notification by the Open University you must arrive at the university to sign your contract;
  • Pay the tuition fee after receiving the invoice. The Open University will then give you access to e-studies in the chosen study courses;
  • During the first class, notify the teacher that you applied to the course through the Open University;
  • For RSU international students: after completing the study course, you have to submit an application form called "Comparison and validation of learning outcomes". You can find this under Application Forms on RSU Student Services. Submit it to your contact person through your MyRSU profile. Your faculty will transfer the ECTS points to your regular study programme.
