Objective

The study course is intended for students of the year 4-5 of the MF in order to acquire the basic pediatric characteristics, including structural and functional characteristics, growth and development of the child organism, the most common childhood diseases, including infectious and surgical diseases, as well as the necessary skills in the investigation and handling of the child in emergency situations, taking into account the principles of the rights and ethics of the child. Study course consists of 4 modules (Paediatric Basics I, which is acquired in the 4th year of study and Paediatric Basics II, Paediatric Infectious diseases and Pediatric surgery, which are acquired in the 5th year of study). Successful completion of the study course ensures that the student is prepared for further professional activities of the doctor in residency studies.

Prerequisites

Students who have successfully completed pre-clinical and clinical courses of the MF year 1-3 and successively year 4, including oral diseases and general surgery, may start the study course. Knowledge of the humanities and social sciences that develop critical thinking and understanding of the person in society is needed. Knowledge of English and desirable knowledge of other EU foreign languages is required, as well as an understanding of the use of medical terminology in Latin.

1.Demonstrate the ability to synthesize information and clearly articulate patient problems, make medical decisions to identify a work diagnosis and a priority differential diagnosis consistent with the patient’s clinical situation
