Objective
To provide medical residents with knowledge about the oral microbiome and its role in maintaining health.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge
1.Will describe the role of oral micro-organisms in maintaining oral health and in the aetiology of caries and periodontal disease.
Will name the predominant bacterial species in case of caries and periodontal diseases.
Skills
1.To collect saliva samples and analyse the samples for caries and periodontal pathogens. To summarise relevant information in the most recent scientific literature on the oral microbiome.
Competence
1.Will use the knowledge gained to make decisions on treatment methods for caries and periodontal diseases that affect the oral microbiome.
