Objective

Provide up-to-date systematized knowledge and practical skills to ensure skills in surgical treatment of metastases in the spine and primary tumors, making planning of operations realistic and coordinated with other treatment methods (stabilization of the spine adapted to radiation therapy, minimally invasive ablation of metastases in cases where it is possible, separation of a complex pathological process or maintaining spinal stability and preventing neurological deficits). In this course, the knowledge and surgical skills acquired in previous courses are used by improving and developing them. Training in a clinic with a large number of operations on patients of the appropriate profile is desirable.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Acquired knowledge to realistically plan spine surgery for an oncological patient, choosing the appropriate type of surgery and technique.

Skills

1.The ability to independently perform decompression-fixation and vertebroplasty surgery in the case of a tumor, assisted implantation of a vertebral body prosthesis.

Competence

1.Make a reasoned decision about the possibility and type of surgery, as well as the choice of implants for the treatment of oncological processes in the spine.
