Objective

To ensure the acquisition of knowledge on the issue of forensic psychiatry and compulsory therapy in order to enable correct evaluation of pathological disorder manifestations and their legal significance. Ensure acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to the requirements of the Regulation on procedure of alcohol, narcotic, psychotropic and toxic substances impact test pursuant to the normative documentation of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge on the legal basis of forensic psychiatric expert and narcological examination, its types and organisation thereof; case identification by using aetiological-pathogenic and clinical criteria; priority parameters in expert examination model; therapy and rehabilitation plans by applying compulsory measures of medical nature.

Skills

1.Skills: detection of psychopathological phenomena and verification of nosological diagnosis. Evaluation and substantiation of the significance thereof in particular legally significant situation. Case identification by using aethiopathogenetic and clinical criteria. Upon the evaluation of the disorders, personality and situation, to select the expert evaluation model in accordance with the priority parameter. Substantiation of the conclusion of expert examination by means of general and special confirming criteria. To provide opinion to the court regarding the changes in psychiatric health of a person over the course of application of the compulsory measures of medical character. To ascertain the fact of the use of psychoactive substances, the effect or intoxication.

Competence

1.Competencies: to be able to answer the questions addressed to the panel of experts based on the obtained information and the clinical status of the disorders in dynamic change. To assume liability for the decisions made, ethical and legal consequences of one’s behaviour. To know the laws and regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia that apply to forensic psychiatric expert and narcological examination and forensic expert examination in general. To give orders to medical, care and rehabilitation team members during the implementation of the compulsory measures of medical character. To use in the practice, as much as possible, the discoveries of science and information available in the literature. Be able to interpret the results of expertise, be able to take responsibility for the opinions provided.
