Objective

To provide knowledge about the most common periodontal pathologies, relation to orthodontics.
To provide an overview of modern treatment options for periodontal diseases: conservative and surgical treatment, use of biomaterials.
To create competence in integrated orthodontic and periodontological care for patients when implementing an orthodontic treatment programme.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge about incidence and etiopathogenesis of periodontal disease, conservative treatment possibilities of periodontal diseases.
Knowledge about modern surgical treatment possibilities and use of biomaterials in periodontal surgery.
Knowledge of the effects of orthodontic treatment on the periodontium.
Knowledge about specifics of orthodontic treatment in patients with periodontal diseases in the remission phase.
Knowledge about specific problems in integrated orthodontic and periodontal patient care.

Skills

1.Will know how to probe gingival pockets and complete a periodontal card.
Will be able to evaluate changes in periodontal tissues during orthodontic treatment and to notice the loss of periodontal tissues in a timely manner.

Competence

1.To understand the impact of orthodontic forces on periodontal tissues: both healthy and pathological changes.
Is competent to manage orthodontic treatment of patients with chronic periodontitis in the remission phase.
Is competent to manage orthodontic treatment of patients in integration with periodontal surgery: “Periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics PAOO”.
