Objective

The aim of the course is to gain a comprehensive understanding and ability to analyse the role of international organisations (United Nations – UN, European Union – EU, North Atlantic Treaty Organization – NATO, Council of Europe, etc.) in ensuring peace, human rights, and security. The course examines the legal and political aspects of international cooperation, including global security challenges.

Prerequisites

The basics of international relations.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Convincingly analyses the role of several international organisations in ensuring peace, human rights, and security by using an appropriately chosen theoretical foundation and nuanced empirical material.

Skills

1.By completing the course, students acquire the skills to analyse and evaluate the areas of activity of specific international organisations, the processes of consultation and decision-making, and their impact on various social groups in one or more countries, as well as at one or more levels across the multi-level governance spectrum. The most obvious example of demonstrating such skills is a student's timely preparation of a paper on a given topic in accordance with the conditions defined in the course, presented in person in accordance with specific requirements and submitted within the specified deadline.

Competence

1.Addresses complex situations and develops a comprehensive analysis from the perspective of at least one international organisation, including how decisions made and actions taken affect specific parties involved and international relations as a whole in the short or medium term.
