International Cooperation

At the beginning of this week the Populist Encounters research group of the RSU Social Sciences Research Centre hosted a workshop themed 'Populist Backlash and the Politics of the Green Transition in the Baltic States'. The workshop brought together researchers, policy makers, journalists, industry representatives, and civil society actors from across the Baltic region and beyond to address the challenges of the green transition in a rapidly changing political landscape.

The workshop had two main objectives:

  • to integrate diverse stakeholders at the earliest stages of research development to strengthen evidence-based research and policymaking;
  • to build a supportive regional network.

The workshop highlighted the importance of international cooperation in tackling shared regional challenges, bringing together expertise from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and wider European networks. Equally central was the strong engagement with industry stakeholders, ensuring that discussions moved beyond theory to practical, real-world solutions.

A key outcome of the event was the development of new ideas for joint international research projects and funding applications, strengthening long-term collaboration between different stakeholders in the region. The workshop laid the foundation for a growing network committed to advancing sustainable and socially responsive green transition policies.
