International Cooperation

From 17 to 19 June, the annual meeting of the European University Association Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE), Doctoral research and talent for the advancement of society, took place at the University of Galway in Ireland. Rīga Stradiņš University was represented at the meeting by Inga Sīle, Head of the Doctoral School and lecturer (pictured).

The meeting brought together doctoral education experts, heads of doctoral schools, representatives of university administration, policy-makers and other professionals from across Europe. Over three days, participants discussed the role of doctoral education in advancing society, collaboration with industry and other societal partners, and preparing doctoral candidates for diverse career opportunities both within and beyond academia.

Particular attention was paid to the development of transferable skills, interdisciplinarity and the enhancement of doctoral programmes, with the aim of linking them more closely to societal needs and labour market requirements. The discussions also highlighted the role of universities in strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and innovation, particularly in the context of rapid technological and geopolitical change.

“Participation in this international meeting provided an opportunity to gain up-to-date insights into trends in doctoral education in Europe, strengthen international cooperation and learn from valuable experience. We will be able to use the insights gained as we continue to improve the doctoral study process and support measures for doctoral candidates at Rīga Stradiņš University,” says Sīle.
