About the lecturers
Dr. Ulvi Gürsoy is the head of the Periodontology department at the University of Turku, Finland. He received his DDS from Gazi University, Turkey in 1998 and accomplished his PhD in periodontology in Cumhuriyet University, Turkey in 2004. Started his post-doctoral training in University of Helsinki, Finland and National Public Health Institute, Helsinki, Finland in 2005. In 2009, he was appointed as university teacher at the Institute of Dentistry, University of Turku, Finland. He received his associate professorship at the same university in 2010 and professorship in 2023.
He is serving as the director of Finnish Doctoral Programme in Oral Sciences (FINDOS Turku), past-president of the Scandinavian Society of Periodontology and secretary general of the Scandinavian Division (NOF) of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). Dr. Caspar Wohlfahrt (PhD, MS, DDS, specialist in periodontology) received his dental degree at the University of Gothenbourg in 1997 and achieved his specialist degree as well as Master of science in dentistry at University of Minnesota in 2004. He defended his PhD thesis entitled 'On the use of titanium based materials as non-resorbable bone substitutes' in 2012.
Dr Wohlfahrt is now sharing his time between work as a clinical periodontist, research and clinical teaching as an associate professor at the Department of Periodontology, University of Oslo. His main research focuses have been osseous reconstruction as well as treatment strategies for peri-implantitis. Dr Wohlfahrt has more than 20 peer reviewed publications and has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally. Dr Wohlfahrt is the inventor and patentholder behind Straumann TiBrush as well as Labrida BioClean. He maintains a part time specialist clinic focused on periodontology and implant dentistry.
