On 9 February, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) celebrated 313 bachelor’s and master’s graduates from seven faculties as they received their diplomas. Family members, friends, and other supporters had the opportunity to follow the graduation ceremony in person in the RSU Great Hall, and those who could not attend in person could follow it live via the RSU website.

‘A diploma from RSU is a sign of quality, attested by the student’s academic achievements during their studies and the high employment rates among our graduates.

I am genuinely pleased that more than 300 undergraduate and master’s programme graduates will embark on their professional careers this winter. Among them are not only police officers and lawyers but also psychologists, health sports and nutrition specialists, social anthropologists, art therapists, master’s students in business management, as well as international medical and dental students,’ emphasised RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons.

The first winter graduation ceremony started at 11.00 for international students from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry. Among the graduates were 123 young doctors and 16 dentists, who were greeted by Prof. Pētersons and the Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Health Artjoms Uršuļskis. Since 2019, the number of international students at RSU has increased by 30% and is approaching three thousand. The majority of them come from Sweden, Germany, Finland, Norway and Italy.

Later, at 15.00, the graduation ceremony for graduates of the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Communication, Faculty of European Studies, Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare, and Faculty of Rehabilitation took place.

Among the graduates of the Faculty of Law were 23 students from the bachelor's programme and 15 students from the master's programme, along with 34 graduates of the Police Work programme. The new specialists were addressed by the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Igors Rajevs.

The graduates of the Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare included 37 health sports specialists, nine social workers, eight health psychologists and four supervisors. Six social anthropologists graduated from the Faculty of Communication. Eight master’s students in international marketing and business management graduated from the Faculty of European Studies, while 11 nutritionist specialists and graduates of the Art Therapy Master’s programme graduated from the Faculty of Rehabilitation.

This is the last year when students will graduate from these faculties. As a result of an internal consolidation process, RSU has reduced the number of faculties from nine to five as of 6 February 2024. These faculties are the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The graduation ceremonies were attended by RSU Rector Aigars Pētersons, Vice-Rector for Health Studies Guntis Bahs, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Dins Šmits, faculty deans, programme directors, lecturers, students and other guests.
