On Friday, 10 February, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will be celebrating as 397 Latvian and international students will receive their diplomas. The winter graduation ceremonies will finally be able to take place in person after a two-year break.

RSU management will address the graduates as will representatives of the state administration, and Riga Technical University (RTU) with which RSU has joint study programmes. The band Dziļi violets will play for the graduates, and musician Nauris Brikmanis will be the host of the event.

The winter graduation ceremony programme will consist of two parts. The ceremony will commence at 11:00 when graduates from the Faculty of Medicine will receive their diplomas. At 15:00, diplomas will be presented to the graduates from the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Communication, the Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare, the Faculty of Rehabilitation, the Faculty of European Studies, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Liepāja Branch of RSU, and the Health Management master's programme.

131 young medical doctors and 19 dentists from 17 countries will be graduating this year. They come from Finland, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Latvia, New Zealand, Nepal, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Taiwan, and the UK. RSU has been successfully working in education export for 33 years and currently has students from more than 65 countries. International students constitute a quarter of the student body at RSU, and every fifth lecturer comes from abroad. Five graduates from the Faculty of Medicine will also receive their diplomas at the graduation ceremony at 11:00. The students will be addressed by the Minister of Health Līga Meņģelsone, among others.

27 students from the Nutrition and Art Therapy programmes will graduate from the Faculty of Rehabilitation this winter. 37 new health sports specialists, 12 social workers, five graduates from the Health Management master’s programme, 13 health psychologists, as well as nine health sports specialists from RSU’s Liepāja Branch will be among the graduates of the Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare. 12 master’s students will graduate from the Faculty of Pharmacy. From these, four will be awarded diplomas in industrial pharmacy and eight in clinical pharmacy. The Industrial Pharmacy programme is implemented at RSU in cooperation with RTU, therefore the graduates will also be addressed by Professor Uldis Sukovskis, Vice-Rector for Studies at RTU.

Two new social anthropologists will be graduating from the Faculty of Communication, and three international marketing and business management specialists and three international business and law specialists will be graduating from the Faculty of European Studies. Diplomas will also be awarded to 56 law graduates and 63 internal affairs employees (compared to 23 last year). These are mostly police officers who have upgraded their knowledge and qualifications by studying in the RSU Police Work programme. It is expected that the Chief of the State Police Armands Ruks will address the graduates at the ceremony.
