On Tuesday, 17 March, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) held a meeting of its Convent of Councillors, during which attendees discussed current issues related to the university’s development. The meeting was opened by Prof. Ludmila Vīksna, Chair of the Convent of Councillors, and RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons, who emphasised that the university is purposefully strengthening its position as a leader in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Latvian higher education.

Jānis Laizāns, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Support Unit, introduced participants to the use of AI at RSU. He noted that RSU is actively using AI to modernise studies, conduct research, and streamline administrative processes. The university has launched the first master’s programme in AI in Latvia - Digital Strategy and Artificial Intelligence Management. In research, AI is used, for example, in radiology, bioinformatics, and research data processing, while in administrative work, it is supported by tools such as the virtual assistant Ieva, Microsoft Copilot, and TetGPT.

At the meeting, Teodors Tālers, Methodologist at the Department of Surgery, and Prof. Kristīne Mārtinsone, Head of the Department of Health Psychology and Paedagogy, shared their experiences. The meeting concluded with a discussion on the issues addressed.
