For Students

On 14 March, the 31st Congress of the Latvian Student Association (LSA) elected a new president – Luīze Monta Remese, a 4th-year medical student at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and former Chairperson of the RSU Student Union.

She received 105 votes in favour, 1 against, and no abstentions, according to LSA. This will be Remese’s first term as LSA President, beginning on 14 April this year.

Currently, Remese is a fourth-year medical student at RSU and serves as Vice-Chair of the RSU Student Council Constitutional Assembly. She served as Chairperson of the RSU Student Union in 2024 and 2025.

Vision for LSA

What is her vision for her role in LSA? 'Representing students’ interests at the national level requires clear focus and consistent action.

As President, I will prioritise strengthening the quality of studies, creating a respectful and safe study environment, address the accessibility and quality of student dormitories, ensuring full participation of international students, and enhancing student involvement in decision-making.

My goal is to ensure that these issues move beyond discussion and become tangible solutions and visible improvements in students’ daily lives,' Remese commented after her election.

Prior work in LSA

She has previously been actively involved in LSA. In 2024, she was head of foreign affairs and served three years as an LSA Council member representing RSU students’ interests. Since spring 2025, Remese has worked as LSA Policy Coordinator, focusing primarily on academic career model reform, international student issues, and integrating international experiences into LSA activities. She has also coordinated the LSA Student-Expert Network and led the LSA Audit Committee for two years.

We congratulate Luīze Monta Remese on her election and wish her every success in achieving goals that make student life more organised and forward-thinking!
