For Students

On 21 June at 19:00, the latest issue of the student investigative journalism magazine Inquisitio was launched in the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) tent at the conversation festival LAMPA. The launch was a discussion with the participation of well-known figures in the field of journalism, such as Linda Abu Meri, Ģederts Ģelzis (Latvijas Radio), and Evita Puriņa (Re:Baltica). The discussion brought together former, current, and future journalists to focus on why investigative journalism is needed and what topics should be explored.

inquisitio_11.jpgAnda Rožukalne, Editor of the magazine māmiņa and Head of the Investigative Journalism study course in the RSU Journalism study programme, calls the magazine a training ground for young investigative journalists. The fact that the magazine continues to be published also proves the need for investigative journalism in a healthy democracy.

The 11th issue of the magazine covers stories about young doctors’ experiences of psychological abuse at work, investigations into cases of sexual harassment, drugging in local nightclubs and bars, as well as the humiliation, aggressive criticism and emotional abuse faced by young people while obtaining their driver’s license.

The magazine includes investigative articles on education and sport, history, social issues and health, along with practical life studies such as the situation 12 years after the Maxima supermarket tragedy, the rental market in Riga, products from Temu and Shein, and the experience of the railway operator Pasažieru vilciens launching services under its new brand VIVI.

The 11th issue of Inquisitio was created by third-year students from the Journalism programme at RSU: Elza Anmane, Emīlija Anspoka, Anna Apīne, Elizabete Balčus, Ārija Bērziņa, Monta Bērziņa, Annija Brahmane, Una Eglīte, Patrīcija Enia Elnione, Ēriks Gorda, Laura Elizabete Jansone, Katrīne Liepzare, Emīlija Mariševa, Una Laura Siliņa, Laura Siņutkina, and Sintija Šiliņa. Editor – Anda Rožukalne; publisher – RSU Faculty of Social Sciences; literary editors – Indra Orleja and Ināra Mikažāne; design and layout – Egils Turss.

Inquisitio is a unique publication in the Latvian academic environment. It is created by RSU journalism students, offering original investigations on topics of public importance, thereby demonstrating the students’ skills and competence in delivering quality journalism.
