RSU LSPA

This morning, 25 April, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and the RSU Latvian Academy of Sports Education (RSU LASE) jointly participated for the first time in Olympic Day, which is organised annually by the Latvian Olympic Committee to inspire physical activity and promote an active lifestyle.

From 09:50 to 10:05, students, staff, and lecturers exercised together in two locations — RSU Inspiration Park and at the main entrance of RSU LASE at 333 Brīvības gatve — celebrating movement as a way of life. This marked a historic moment for RSU: it was the first time the university had officially participated in Olympic Day activities.

Kristiana Jurkevica, Head of Culture and Sports of the RSU Student Union, says on behalf of the organisers of the Olympic Day: 'This morning, for the first time in the history of RSU, we joined the All-Latvian Olympic Day — and we are doing so together with our colleagues from RSU LASE.

This is the first year that RSU and RSU LASE are joining forces to jointly inspire, energise, and celebrate movement as a lifestyle.

Today is all about celebrating physical activity and coming together as one healthy, vibrant, and active community.'

The exercises were led by second-year students from RSU LASE — future sports coaches — who created a flowing, fun, and inspiring atmosphere where the focus was not on skill, but on participation and togetherness. RSU LASE has been taking part in this tradition since 2012, and this year was delighted to welcome the extended RSU family into its sporting rhythm.

Extra activity - Olympic trivia challenge on Instagram

In order to prepare and engage students intellectually, the RSU Student Union organised a trivia challenge on the Olympic Movement on its Instagram account @rsusp from 22 to 24 April. Out of 105 participants, two - Madara Uzula and Raivo Lūsis - answered all 15 questions correctly. Almost as accurate were Markuss Spricis, Daiga Bergmane, Undīne Ulmane, Daido Dagne Brūvere, Katrīna Pucēna, Aiga Veisa and Samanta Rucka, who answered 14 questions correctly. The winners were announced during the exercise and will be contacted individually to receive their prizes from the Latvian Olympic Academy.

About Olympic Day

Olympic Day is part of an international movement launched by the International Olympic Committee in 1987. In Latvia, the tradition has been alive since 1992 and has become an important moment to recall the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

This sporty morning served as an inspiring reminder to the RSU and RSU LASE community that health begins with movement, and that coming together in participation can unite, inspire, and bring genuine joy.
