On 17 November, the eve of the Centenary celebrations of the Republic of Latvia, the highest awards of the Latvian State – the Order of the Three Stars – were presented in a solemn awards ceremony. The order is awarded to people for meritorious service on behalf of the Fatherland. These achievements can be related to state, local government, public, cultural, educational, scientific, sports-related or economic activities. It refers to outstanding individual accomplishments or to long periods of exemplary and successful activities, and to particular achievements during the period of the restoration and consolidation of the independence of Latvia.

The Order of the Three Stars, Fourth Class is awarded to the following professors:

  • The Head of the Ophthalmology Clinic of Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital and Professor at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Guna Laganovska,
  • Surgeon and RSU Professor Guntars Pupelis,
  • Chief Physician of Riga Maternity Hospital and RSU Professor Dace Rezeberga, and

  • Head of the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation Clinic of Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital and RSU Professor Indulis Vanags.
The Order of the Three Stars is the highest state decoration in Latvia. It was established in 1924 in commemoration of the establishment of the independent Latvian state and was reinstated in 1994.
