RSU brings together experts for Erasmus+ Staff Week on future skills in medicine
From 2 to 5 June, Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) is hosting the international Erasmus+ Staff Week, Future Skills in Health & Medicine: Preparing Professionals for a Changing World. The event brings together representatives of higher education institutions, academic staff, researchers, and artificial intelligence (AI) experts from numerous European Union countries to discuss transformations in healthcare and future challenges in medical education.
The central question of the Staff Week is how higher education can prepare future healthcare professionals for a rapidly changing working environment. Digitalisation, AI, and emerging technologies are becoming an integral part of everyday healthcare, transforming not only healthcare systems themselves but also public expectations and needs. These developments increase patient and public involvement in healthcare processes and require healthcare professionals to adapt and acquire the skills needed in this new reality.
Higher education institutions play a crucial role in this process. Health-related study programmes must evolve and adapt to integrate the competencies and skills that future physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals will need to meet the demands of the sector.
Equally important is the role of universities in fostering innovation and actively involving students in the development of new solutions.
The event was opened by RSU Vice-Rector for Studies, Prof. Haralds Plaudis. Speakers from RSU include colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences, as well as a representative of the RSU Stade Branch. International speakers include leading experts from Sweden, Germany, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.
