The opening ceremony of the RSU Institute of Oncology was held on 11 December 2014 on the grounds of Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. The RSU Institute of Oncology is currently the most advanced research centre in the Baltics, financed with the support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with a total investment of 1.7 million euros. 1.4 million euros were invested in the purchase of modern lab equipment, and 340 000 euros were invested in the renovation of the building.

Recent studies in the molecular genetics of cancer and proteomics research with robotic laboratory and analysis equipment have already started, and initial test results show that the institute will be able to provide patients with personalised and rational clinical solutions in their treatment. The institute will also continue with historically studied familial cancer research.

The aim of Rīga Stradiņš University is to become a centre of excellence in medical sciences, offering innovative research and scientific breakthroughs in the field of healthcare, including oncology. The future development of the RSU Institute of Oncology will be based on long-term cooperation with Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital.
