Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Library has gratefully accepted a book donation from the Embassy of India in Latvia, which will enrich the library’s collection and promote access to academic and cultural resources for the RSU community.
The donation to the RSU Library was received during a ceremony on 23 January, attended by H.E. Namrata Satdeve Kumar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Latvia.
The donation was received by Liene Ozola, Deputy Director of the RSU Library, who emphasised in her speech that
these books are not only a valuable addition to the library’s collection, but also a significant symbol of cooperation between Latvia and India.
‘This is particularly significant because Indian students are part of our university’s international student community,’ she added.
The book collection includes 90 books covering various topics such as history, religion, philosophy, culture, art, politics, economics, and medicine to provide a valuable addition to studies, research, and wider education on Indian culture, history, society, and international relations.
Along with representatives of the Embassy, former RSU students and representatives of the diaspora attended the event.
This donation is part of an initiative of the Embassy of India to strengthen knowledge and cultural exchange between India and Latvia, as well as to promote academic cooperation among educational institutions and organisations. In addition, the donation is dedicated to India Republic Day, celebrated on 26 January, commemorating the year 1950 when the Indian Constitution was established.
The donated books will be available to all visitors of the RSU Library, providing new opportunities for study and research.
