An academic reputation survey conducted by market research company Kantar TNS Latvia reveals that RSU has been recognised as a top quality university with an outstanding reputation, being ranked the highest among the ten largest universities in Latvia.

The reference group, with ages between 15–26, has assessed RSU's reputation with 74 index points, while the sectoral average awarded by this target audience is 58 points. The overall (15–60 years) assessment of RSU's reputation is 69 points which is the highest score for Latvia compared to the average academic reputation assessment by the given reference group – 57 points. RSU reputation index exceeds Europe’s average in all sectors, i.e. 46 points.

The survey reveals that RSU's reputation is rooted in the university’s trustworthiness and supreme academic quality. A diploma awarded by the university is highly regarded in the job market and the acquired speciality provides the knowledge and skills essential for employability in the chosen profession.

RSU rector, Prof. Jānis Gardovskis recognises that, “a good reputation is hard to earn, thus once earned it is an extremely important asset. Our outstanding performance indicators are the result of a well-weighed long-term development strategy, which, due to the pursuance of strictly defined goals by the entire RSU team, students among them, over the course of many years has enabled RSU to become the most progressive local university. Therefore I strongly believe that this reputation ranking is by no means a one-off coincidence but instead – the assessment of our attitude towards work and society on a daily basis”.

The Latvian academic reputation survey was conducted in February and March 2017 via computer-assisted telephone interviews, surveying 1002 inhabitants of Latvia aged 15–60 (this is a representative sample for general population in the given age group).

In addition to medicine and healthcare studies, nine faculties at RSU offer study programmes in contemporary sciences. As for today RSU has 7495 students, among them 2032 international students from 49 countries.
