Open University for Ukrainian Civilians
Initiative offering Ukrainian civilians free access to selected study programmes or individual courses, supporting education and professional development.
The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Open University allows Ukrainian civilians to enrol in several study programmes offered by the University for free, or to audit individual study courses. The programmes are: Medicine, Dentistry, International Business and Start-up Entrepreneurship, Health Management, Social Work with Children and Youth, International Governance and Diplomacy, and Pharmacy (in Latvian).
Financial support provided by RSU for participation in study courses in the 2025/2026 academic year has been fully allocated. Information about future funding opportunities will be published in August 2026.
Application process
- In order to attend one of the courses listed above for free, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- temporary protection status, as evidenced by a temporary residence permit and an identity card;
- asylum-seeker status, as evidenced by an asylum-seeker's identity document or a foreigner's identity card;
- refugee status, as evidenced by a permanent residence permit and a travel document which also serves as an identity document;
- alternative status, as evidenced by a temporary residence permit and an identity document and a travel document.
- During the application process, you must certify that you have been granted one of the above mentioned statuses and send us the documents specified.
- A language proficiency test will be provided if the International Department, Open University or study programme director has doubts about the listener's level of language proficiency for the relevant study course. The test result is the basis for making a decision on starting or continuing the study course.
