Objective

To introduce medical engineers to the requirements of normative ethics, the specifics of professional and medical ethics, basic principles and application thereof in practice.

Prerequisites

Prior knowledge in ethics is desirable.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.About the concepts of professional and medical ethics used in the course (person, autonomy, fairness, responsibility, basic principles of medical ethics, etc.), moral dilemmas and options for solving them.

Skills

1.To organise one’s views on the topics of normative, professional and medical ethics learned in the course, use arguments from different directions of ethics; to analyse ethical dilemmas and specific cases, to discuss with arguments.

Competence

1.Analytical and critical thinking abilities – cognitive competence, as well as communicative competence acquired in the practical classes.
