Virology and Molecular Biology (RLA_010)
About Study Course
Objective
To prepare laboratory doctors capable of performing laboratory diagnostics (serological, molecular biological, virus isolation) of infectious diseases caused by viruses, capable of using molecular biological diagnostics for diagnostics of diseases caused by bacteria and viruses. To understand the significance and role of epidemiological examinations in identification of the source of infection. To use examination algorithms based on international guidelines and recommendations, to interpret the obtained results. To master internal and external quality control methods.
Learning outcomes
1.- to evaluate advantages of different virological and molecular biological methods;
- to describe principles of diagnostic methods used in virology;
- to characterise the creation of a diagnostic algorithm of viral infections;
- to evaluate laboratory diagnostics and treatment monitoring of viral hepatitis and HIV/AIDS;
- to describe rules of sampling of biological materials to perform virological and molecular biological examinations..
1.- to prepare samples for virological and molecular biological examination;
- to use manual and automated examination methods;
- to perform isolation of viruses and indication of viruses in a clinical material;
- to perform identification of RNA/DNA of viruses and bacteria;
- to conduct immunochemical examination methods to determine antibodies and antigens.
1.To perform diagnostic examinations of human biological material for diagnostics of viral infections. Based on exercise results to perform diagnostics, differential diagnostics of diseases, to interpret results and to recommend further examination activity to clinicians.
