Treatment of Degenerative Diseases of the Spine II (RMK_016)
About Study Course
Objective
The second part of the spinal degenerative diseases training course is a sequential training course that builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the first courses. The aim of part II is the ability to analyze, understand the problem and create a treatment plan in case of complicated degenerative pathology of the spine, such as degenerative scoliosis with spondylolisthesis or osteoporotic fracture, ankylosis, kyphosis, spinal imbalance. In these cases, a complex approach to the spine is required, both respecting the biomechanical parameters and the integrity and function of the nerve structures, understanding the effect of the operated section of the spine on the non-operated ones. The aim of the course includes giving residents the ability and skill to combine surgical techniques and materials, to use both dorsal and ventral approaches to the spine.
Learning outcomes
1.The student has acquired sufficient theoretical knowledge to evaluate whether an improvement in the patient's quality of life can be achieved with extensive reconstructive surgery, to create a complex one- or several-stage surgery plan and to consider alternatives in case of unforeseen technical difficulties.
1.Has mastered at least one of the types of spinal osteotomies and knows how to correct degenerative scoliosis in the lumbar region with implant construction and intervertebral disk fixing substitutes (PLIF or TLIF), augmented screw implantation technique.
1.Competent in evaluating treatment options for complex spinal deformity or chronic instability and drawing up a treatment plan.
