Objective

To ensure the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for the provision of emergency medical care in acute situations in the amount required for a psychiatrist.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.• On emergency medical conditions and implementation of life maintaining measures in patients with vital function disorders;
• On regulatory enactments governing psychiatric care and the procedures for the drawing up of medical documentation.

Skills

1.• To diagnose principal emergency conditions: arresting bronchial asthma attacks, seizures, arrhythmias, to teach acting in the event of angina pectoris attacks and infarctions;
• Arresting of bleeding. Immobilisation in the event of trauma, patient transportation;
•Administration of medicinal products, recognition of toxic conditions;
• Explanation of health disorders and possible assistance measures to the patient in an easily understandable manner;
• Reflection of the aforementioned in medical documentation in an appropriate manner.

Competence

1.• Provision of a full range of emergency medical assistance;
• Implementation of the therapy of emergency conditionsin patients with psychiatric disorders and organisation of care thereof;
• Organisation of consultations and further care at specialised institutions;
• To be aware of the limits of one’s professional competence.
