Objective

To ensure the acquisition of emergency radiology for successful further implementation of studies in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the radiology specialty in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of radiologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.• To formulate and sequentially arrange the normal anatomy, anatomical variants and acute pathologies of the abdominal organs, thoracic organs, musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, nervous system.
• To name, explain and describe the radiological diagnostic guidelines for emergency conditions.
• To analyse and describe the basic principles and indications of the polytrauma protocol, FAST ultrasonography.
• To name and sequentially arrange the basic principles, indications and contraindications for performing CT with and without i/v contrast administration in emergency radiology.
• To identify and formulate the basic principles of the polytrauma protocol, FAST ultrasonography.

Skills

1.• To identify, describe and evaluate the clinical and laboratory indications and contraindications for acute radiological examinations, and select the most appropriate radiological method for the diagnosis of acute pathology.
• To differentiate between and explain the radiological findings of acute pathologies on thoracoabdominal, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, cardiovascular X-ray, USG and CT with and without i/v contrast administration.

Competence

1.• To evaluate, argue, and justify acute chest radiographs and CT scans under the supervision of a certified physician.
• To interpret and radiologically evaluate acute abdominal review radiographs and CT scans under the supervision of a certified physician.
• To substantiate, compare and justify acute skeletal radiographs and CT scans under the supervision of a certified physician.
• To evaluate, substantiate, and justify acute abdominal ultrasonography, including FAST, under the supervision of a certified physician. Marking the ascites puncture site under the supervision of a certified physician.
• To plan, interpret and evaluate acute ultrasonography of the pleural space under the supervision of a certified physician, marking of the hydrothorax puncture site under the supervision of a certified physician..
• To evaluate, substantiate, and justify ultrasonographic examinations of the blood vessels of the lower limb under the supervision of a certified physician.
