Objective

To train rheumatology residents to understand the non-pharmacological treatment options for musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases, including physiotherapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. To provide knowledge about the role, principles, and application of these therapies in reducing joint and soft tissue damage, preventing disease exacerbations, and supporting recovery. The resident learns to apply medical technologies used in physiotherapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitation to improve functional capacity in rheumatic patients.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.The resident demonstrates advanced and comprehensive knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases, forming the foundation for clinical reasoning, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The resident:
understands the principles, indications, and contraindications of physiotherapy medical technologies used in rheumatology;
knows the essence, principles, and safety considerations of physical therapy procedures in rheumatic diseases;
recognizes the role of rehabilitation and applicable medical technologies in improving functional ability and reducing disability in rheumatic patients.

Skills

1.The resident:
understands the clinical problem, selects appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic approaches;
implements treatment, rehabilitation, and preventive measures for rheumatic conditions;
can justify and discuss the role of physiotherapy and rehabilitation with specialists and patients;
accurately maintains and completes medical documentation;
prescribes and evaluates physical therapy and rehabilitation interventions purposefully;
independently develops professional skills and applies innovative approaches in functional recovery of patients.

Competence

1.The resident:
practices within their professional scope at a high level of knowledge and skills, performing treatment and rehabilitation of rheumatic diseases;
independently develops and implements a structured treatment and rehabilitation plan, defines therapeutic goals, and evaluates outcomes and adverse effects;
assesses and integrates physical therapy and rehabilitation results into overall treatment strategy;
collaborates in a multidisciplinary team and assumes responsibility for planning and quality of rehabilitation care.
