Objective

To provide knowledge and to deepen the competence of social workers regarding the functions and responsibilities of social services in the context of civil protection (CA), focusing on the responsibilities of civil protection system organisations, local governments and social services, resource management and support to target groups in crisis situations.

Prerequisites

Social Security system in Latvia; Social work organisation in local municipalities (communities).

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students will understand the institutional system of Civil Protection, its activities at UN, EU and NATO level.

Skills

1.As a result of the completion of the study course, students will be able to analyse, identify and assess the resources necessary for social services to perform tasks and duties in civil protection and emergency situations.

Competence

1.Those taking part in the study course will be able to identify and assess the specific needs of the target groups of social services and take a competent decision to provide the necessary support and assistance in CA and emergency situations.
