Senior researcher (Systems biology)
We Offer
The Computational Systems Biology team led by tenured professor Dr.sc.ing. Egils Stalidzans at RSU Bioinformatics group is currently looking for a talented and motivated senior researcher (scientist with a doctoral degree) to work in scientific projects at Rīga Stradiņš University implementing bioinformatics and systems biology approaches in data processing, integration and mechanistic modeling of processes. The topics of the projects are mainly related to medical issues.
Work Location: Riga, Latvia (remote option possible)
Working Time: 12-40 hours per week
Employment contract: Fixed-term employment contract of up to 2 years, which will be extended in case of a positive evaluation
What we expect
- The candidate must have obtained a doctoral degree in systems biology, bioinformatics, (bio)-statistics, (computational) biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics or another equivalent field
- Computer programming skills are required
We will appreciate
- Computer programming skills (eg R, Matlab, Python/Perl/Julia or Java)
- Experience with Linux OS, high performance computing (HPC), cloud server platforms (AWS, DNAnexus)
- Data analysis and mathematical modeling skills
- Mathematical modeling skills with programs similar to COPASI, COBRA, CNApy
- Basic knowledge in molecular biology and "omics" technologies is desirable
- A good list of completed courses, previous research results and publications, as shown in the CV
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
- Independent work skills and the ability to fit into the team
- Ability to take initiative and demonstrate strong organizational skills
Everyday work
- Bioinformatics data analysis and integration of various omics data (especially transcriptome/RNA-seq, proteomics and metabolomics) into mathematical models of metabolism, signaling and other processes of various scales using systems biology approach;
- Mathematical modeling and optimization of cellular processes;
- Involvement in creating and maintaining data processing infrastructure;
- Participation in scientific discussions of project consortia and RSU Bioinformatics group;
- Preparation of scientific project applications and publications.
