Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) invites everyone to attend the European Researchers’ Night on 26 September from 18:00 to 22:00 and explore the fields of medicine, dentistry, sports science, and learn about the latest research achievements at the university. This year’s programme will offer a wide range of activities that will take place at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) at 26A Anniņmuižas bulvāris and at the RSU Red Cross Medical College at 5 Jāņa Asara iela.

During the event, visitors will meet researchers and students, take part in workshops and guided tours, and get a closer look at modern medicine, sports, and technology. The leading concept of this years’ Researchers’ Night is “Uncover the researcher gene within you!”. The slogan encourages everyone to unleash their curiosity, step into the world of science, and enjoy creative activities.

Activities at the Medical Education Technology Centre

At the RSU METC, visitors will get a glimpse into the daily routine of healthcare professionals and can step into their shoes for one evening. Guests can explore a hospital’s emergency department and delivery room, take part in an immersive military medicine exercise, learn about DNA and genetics, and even try their hand at a dental filling. In the operating theatre, guests will have the chance to wash their hands like a true surgeon, practice tying surgical knots, and test their skills on a laparoscopic surgery simulator.

A special activity awaits anyone who has ever dreamed of being a detective! Guided by forensic experts, participants will be able to take fingerprints and discover how much a footprint can reveal about a person in the activity “Human. Footprints. Crime.”.

Additionally, you will have the chance to talk with sports scientists and specialists from the RSU Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASE) who will invite you to get moving and test your body’s abilities.

Activities offered by the Red Cross Medical College

This year, the RSU Red Cross Medical College will open its doors to visitors on Researchers’ Night for the first time. Throughout the evening, participants will be able to explore life sciences – from the smallest microbes to first aid skills. Activities will invite visitors to discover human anatomy and bone structure, as well as microbes and bacteria that affect us all. Also, you will be able to learn how 3D technologies are used in medicine and education. Everyone will be welcome to explore the rich world of medicinal plants and pharmacology.

Why you should visit

Researchers’ Night at RSU is an opportunity for children, young people, and adults to experience science up close – to see how it functions in different fields and to engage actively. It is a chance not only to try practical activities, but also to meet researchers, learn about current projects and study opportunities at the university.
