On 11 September, the RSU Council held its first meeting of the academic year. In his address, RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons highlighted the significance of the meeting, taking place as the university marks its 75th anniversary and reflects on past achievements.

The Council welcomed the positive progress and approved the 2025 budget amendments and the 2026 budget proposals.

Among other priorities, the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Centre and an IT Security Unit are planned for the coming budget year.

Research results and international evaluation

The Council also heard a presentation from RSU Vice-Rector for Science, Agrita Kiopa, on the university’s research activities and results for the period 2019–2025.

A key achievement highlighted in the report was the growth in the number of scientific publications, which rose from 255 in 2019 to 611 in 2024.

The report was prepared in advance of the upcoming International Evaluation of Scientific Institutions of Latvia.

About the RSU Council

The RSU Council consists of 11 experienced and highly qualified members: five representatives nominated by the University Senate, five representatives selected by the Ministry of Health through an open competition, and one representative nominated by the President of Latvia. The Council is chaired by Reinis Bērziņš, Chairman of the Board of Altum, with Juris Lācis, Chairman of the Board of North Kurzeme Regional Hospital, serving as Vice-Chairman.
