Indra Treija re-elected as Chair of RSU Trade Union

On 7 October, the general meeting of delegates of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Trade Union, a suborganisation of the Latvian Trade Union of Health and Social Care Workers, took place. The umbrella union currently has 198 members, organised into 10 professional groups. At the end of September, these groups held meetings , during which 13 delegates were elected to participate in the general meeting.
The general meeting was opened by Indra Treija, the current Chair of the RSU Trade Union, who led the organisation from 2020 to 2025. In her report, she spoke about the achievements over the past five years, highlighting both the daily work of defending employees’ interests and supporting colleagues in various life situations, as well as promoting attendance at cultural events.
Treija informed the members of the meeting about future plans and intended amendments to the collective agreement, the new wording of which is expected to be approved in 2026.
The newly elected Trade Union Committee
All elected delegates participated in the general meeting. Treija was unanimously re-elected as Chair of the Trade Union. Baiba Prauliņa was elected as Deputy Chair, while Anita Seile will continue to serve as a member of the Trade Union Committee. Linda Gailīte was appointed as auditor.
The guest of the general meeting – Dace Jasmane, Director of the RSU Human Resources Department – noted the successful cooperation with the trade union and expressed gratitude to Indra Treija for her dedicated work.

Goals and tasks of the RSU Trade Union
The goals of the RSU Trade Union are to represent the economic, social, and professional rights and interests of its members related to:
- work and adequate remuneration;
- a healthy and safe work environment;
- recreation, mental and cultural personal development;
- professional growth and participation in the development of health and social care;
- creation of a democratic and prosperous society.
To achieve this goal, the trade union engages in dialogue with employers and external partners, contributes to the drafting of legislative acts and decision-making that may affect the socio-economic rights and interests of employees, organises the education of members on legal and socio-economic issues, involves and unites members for active participation in the work of the decision-making bodies of trade organisations, and ensures the exchange of information between members and trade organisations.
