November holds a special and symbolic place in Latvia’s history — it is a month when we commemorate the courage, freedom struggles, and the founding of our state. On 11 November, we mark Lāčplēsis Day, dedicated to Latvia’s freedom fighters, and on 18 November, we celebrate the Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia, when an independent Latvian state was founded in 1918. These events remind us of the perseverance, faith, and unity that have shaped our nation’s path.
To honour this important time of remembrance, Rīga Stradiņš University, in collaboration with the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, invites students to join a guided tour offering a deeper look into one of the most complex yet significant chapters of Latvia’s history — the period of occupation and the country’s road to restored independence.
During the tour, participants will learn more about life in occupied Latvia under Soviet and Nazi regimes, explore the realities of daily existence during these times, and hear stories of resistance and the fight for freedom. The experience will provide valuable insight into Latvia’s historical and cultural identity and its significance in the modern world.
The tour will be led by a professional museum guide.
