Description

The project From Monitoring to Action: A Longitudinal and Cross-Cultural Approach to Athletes’ Psychological Adaptation Throughout the Sports Season is an international research initiative implemented in collaboration between Rīga Stradiņš University, the Lithuanian Sports University, and the National Taiwan Sport University. The aim of the project is to develop a systematic approach for monitoring the psychological state of athletes aged 16–25 throughout the entire sports season, integrating psychological self-assessment instruments with objective psychophysiological measurements. This goal will be achieved through an in-depth investigation of athletes’ psychological and psychophysiological adaptation processes across the season, with particular emphasis on mental health, resilience, and the risk of burnout.

The project also includes a cross-cultural comparison to examine how athletes’ psychological adaptation and mental resilience differ across countries, sports disciplines, and training environments. It combines modern technologies with scientifically validated psychological assessment methods.

The study results will provide evidence-based recommendations for coaches, sports psychologists, and athletes, supporting early identification of mental overload and burnout risks and enabling more effective planning of psychological preparation throughout the sports season. Overall, the project will contribute to sustainable athlete development, improved psychological well-being, and international knowledge exchange in the field of sport science.
