It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Emeritus Dr. habil. med. Līga Aberberga-Augškalne, physician and scientist. 

Līga Aberberga-Augškalne was born on 28 March 1944, in Riga. She graduated from the Rīga Medical Institute and began her professional career at the university in 1971. 

The Professor was a long-time employee and Head of the Department of Human Physiology and Biochemistry (formerly - the Department of Normal Physiology). Her professional work at the department included positions in the capacity of Assistant, Assistant Professor, and Professor, and she served as the Head of the Department from 1995 to 2006.

Aberberga-Augškalne was the Deputy Chair of the Latvian Physiologists Society, a member of the Council of Science of the Latvian Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine and authored more than 78 scientific articles. 

Since 2014, Aberberga-Augškalne had held the title of Professor Emeritus at RSU - a recognition of the university’s appreciation for her many years of work and contribution to the institution.
