In memoriam Andrejs Ancāns (23.01.1949 - 15.06.2026)
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. med. Andrejs Ancāns, psychotherapist and Associate Professor at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Clinic of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy.
Andrejs Ancāns received his medical degree from the Rīga Medical Institute in 1974 and later completed his specialisation in psychotherapy. He began his career at RSU (formerly the Rīga Medical Institute) in 1979. In 1992, he became an Associate Professor in the RSU Department of Pathological Physiology and the Faculty of Medicine. He served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology until 2022.

He devoted his professionalism, wisdom and energy to the work of the RSU Clinic of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy until the end of his life.
Dr. med. Andrejs Ancāns was a physician certified by the Latvian Medical Association.
Throughout his professional career, Dr. med. Andrejs Ancāns devoted significant attention to the education of young doctors, working with residents and sharing his extensive knowledge and clinical experience. With passion and a strong sense of responsibility, he helped foster the professional growth of future medical specialists by imparting valuable knowledge and inspiring them to pursue continuous improvement.
In the memories of his colleagues, Dr. med. Andrejs Ancāns will always be remembered as an outstanding professional, a knowledgeable and experienced physician, a supportive colleague, and a warm-hearted person. His wisdom, humanity, sense of humour and willingness to share his knowledge inspired colleagues, students, and residents alike.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family, colleagues, friends, and other loved ones of Andrejs Ancāns.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, 20 June 2026, at 12:00 in the Great Hall of the Riga Crematorium.
