About Study Course
Objective
The aim of the course is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the assessment of health technologies and their role in the planning and efficient use of health care resources. The course is based on the principles of evidence-based medicine and it's application in decision-making in health care. Within the course, students will learn health technology assessment methods, perform clinical and economic assessment of health technologies, learn the interpretation and analysis of the assessment results.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of economic theory, including market economy and its building blocks, knowledge about provision and financing of healthcare services, basic user level knowledge of MS Excel software.
Learning outcomes
1.o To define the principles of health technology assessment and their application;
o To understand evidence-based decision-making and health economics principles in the field of health technology;
o To know methods of economic analysis of health technology;
o To understand and distinguish economic modeling methods used for the economic evaluation of health technology
o To justify the reliability of clinical effectiveness data of health technology;
o To define the characteristics of a randomized clinical trial.
1.o Select and apply specific economic analysis methods;
o Describe and measure the clinical outcome of health technologies;
o Identify, measure and estimate the costs associated with the technology;
o Perform comparative analysis of health technologies;
o Be able to calculate the benefits and costs of clinical effectiveness for an economic evaluation model;
o Understand the development and application of economic models;
o Assess the cost-effectiveness of health technologies and calculate the cost-effectiveness growth factor.
1.o To justify the importance and role of economic evaluation of health technologies in health system management;
o To make decisions based on evidence and economic analysis regarding the choice of medical technologies;
o To choose specific economic analysis methods for solving specific problems;
o To apply an economic modeling approach in decision-making regarding the choice of health technologies;
o To critically evaluate the results of economic evaluation of specific health technologies.
