Appendicitis in children poses a challenge throughout the course of the illness – from diagnosis to treatment.
It is important to differentiate between acute uncomplicated appendicitis and complicated appendicitis at the start of treatment, because acute uncomplicated appendicitis is treated non-surgically or conservatively, whereas complicated appendicitis requires emergency surgical treatment due to delayed diagnostic processes. In Latvia, acute complicated appendicitis accounts for more than 35% of all cases of appendicitis.

It was a chilly weekend and a driver was driving near Dundee in Scotland. His nose started itching so he closed his mouth and pinched his nose before he sneezed. However, the itching did not stop and he sneezed several more times as before, with his mouth closed and nose closed. Suddenly, his felt a sharp pain in his throat and it began to swell. It became increasingly painful to turn his head from side to side. What had happened? The driver, worried about his health, immediately went to a clinic in Dundee.
On 9 February, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) celebrated 313 bachelor’s and master’s graduates from seven faculties as they received their diplomas. Family members, friends, and other supporters had the opportunity to follow the graduation ceremony in person in the RSU Great Hall, and those who could not attend in person could follow it live via the RSU website.
